The TCu380A IUD has been shown to be an effective, safe, long-term contraceptive device.
- The Copper T 380A intrauterine device (TCu380A IUD) is a popular, safe and very effective contraceptive.
- Once the device is inserted, the user benefits from up to 12 years of effective protection against unintended pregnancy.
- The method is immediately reversible upon removal.
- The device does not interrupt sexual intercourse because it does not require any action on the part of the user.
- The IUD is inserted in a woman’s uterus by a specially trained health care provider, reducing the likelihood of failure due to user error.
- The TCu380A IUD comes pre-packaged and sterile with an insertion device composed of a polyethylene tube, a movable flange, and a rod.
- The adjustable flange on the tube serves to manage insertion depth and accurately place the IUD in the uterus.
- The rod ensures the IUD stays in the right position within the uterus as the tube is withdrawn.
- Before use, preload the IUD onto the plunger. The design allows for quick loading.
- It’s possible to insert the IUD up to 5 days after unprotected sexual intercourse.
Contraindications
- The T-Safe CU 380A QL is a contraceptive device recommended by the WHO that lasts for up to 10 years.
- The horizontal arms completely embed the copper sleeves resulting in an extremely smooth and plane surface.
- Effortless and quick loading of the IUD because of the new insertion body.
After-care
- The IUD can be taken out at any given time.
- If the IUD needs to be removed, it’s best to do so during menstruation or at other times provided there has been no unprotected sex in the past week. If this isn’t feasible, the need for emergency contraception should be contemplated.
- In instances where the IUD is to be replaced, sexual intercourse should be abstained from for the preceding seven days to prepare for a potential unsuccessful re-insertion.
- If the removal coincides with the end of the approved usage duration, it can be done at any point in the menstrual cycle. However, if pregnancy prevention is still desired, it’s recommended to remove the IUD within the initial days following the beginning of menstruation. Alternatively, using condoms or refraining from sexual intercourse for a minimum of seven days prior to the procedure is advised in case re-insertion isn’t achievable.
- When switching to combined hormonal contraception (CHC), remove after seven consecutive days of effective CHC use, or if starting CHC on the day of removal, use condoms for the first 7 days after the switch.
- When switching to the depot or implant progestogen methods, remove the IUD after seven days of use of the new method.
- If inserted after the age of 40 years, the IUD can continue to be used and will remain effective for contraception until the menopause is confirmed.
