Body fillers are injectable, non-surgical, aesthetic treatments that involve injecting absorbable hyaluronic acid gel for minimally invasive volume enhancement.

What Are Body Fillers Used For?

Injectable body contouring is an attractive treatment option for volume restoration and augmentation and provides predictable and long-lasting results.

The injectable hyaluronic acid body filler is a natural, absorbable gel that slowly degrades over time. It is used for patients who want to enhance and enlarge body areas like calves and buttocks or correct irregularities in the skin surface.

If you’re looking for a body filler for your patients, consider HYACORP. This popular range of body contouring treatments is manufactured by the pioneering German company BioScience GmbH. The product range includes two options: HYACORP MLF2® BODY CONTOURING and HYACORP MLF1® BODY CONTOURING.

HYACORP BODY CONTOURING MLF2®/MLF1® is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, viscoelastic, biocompatible (non-immunizing, non-toxic) gel implant that is synthesized from hyaluronic acid obtained by bacterial fermentation.

It is supplied as a transparent viscous gel in a 10 ml syringe. 1 ml of HYACORP MLF2®/MLF1® contains:

  • Hyaluronic acid—2.0 mg
  • Hyaluronic acid with cross-linked molecules—20.0 mg
  • Sodium chloride—6.9 mg
  • Water for injection—1.0 ml

HYACORP MLF2® BODY CONTOURING is ideal for volumizing and augmenting larger body regions, including the buttocks, hip dips, and calves. HYACORP MLF1® BODY CONTOURING suits more superficial applications such as rejuvenating hands and cleavage.

Body Filler Application Process

A licensed medical practitioner should administer body fillers only after thorough consultation with the patient.

The administration technique is as follows:

  • Administer a local anesthetic to carry out the implant as painlessly as possible. You may also administer an antibiotic to prevent infection at your discretion.
  • Remove the syringe from the blister pack. Remove the cap covering the tip of the syringe and fit a suitable sterile needle to the Luer Lock port. Mark the areas to be treated.
  • Inject HYACORP MLF1® BODY CONTOURING (or HYACORP MLF2® BODY CONTOURING) into the subcutaneous tissue.
  • Do not inject into blood vessels or intramuscularly as this could result in embolism. Do not inject into an area in which a permanent implant has been placed.
  • The depth of the injection and the amount administered can vary from case to case and according to the degree of augmentation required.
  • Correct only up to 100% of the volume of augmentation required. Do not carry out overcorrections. Check visually and by touch that a sufficient amount of the filler has been injected.
  • After treatment, advise patients to avoid exposing the treated area to excessive heat (such as sun, solarium, or laser) or cold. They should also refrain from engaging in strenuous physical activities for a few days following the procedure. Also, do not massage the injection site in the days immediately after treatment, and avoid applying excessive pressure to the area.

How Long Do Body Fillers Last?

Body fillers typically last between 6 and 12 months. HYACORP products are expected to last up to 24 months.

Body Fillers Side Effects

Common body filler side effects include:

  • Itching
  • Reddening
  • Swelling at the injection site
  • Subcutaneous hematoma

In most cases, the side effects will clear away spontaneously within one or two weeks after the treatment.

Delayed side effects are rare but may occur. Known delayed side effects of hyaluronic acid body fillers include:

  • Bacterial infections
  • The formation of chronic inflammatory nodules
  • Migration of the filler material
  • Skin necrosis
  • Granuloma formation

In addition, some patients may experience overcorrections or bluish discolorations (called the Tyndall effect).

Body Fillers Contraindications

Body fillers are contraindicated for patients who:

  • Have a history of hypertrophic and keloid scarring
  • Are prone to active inflammatory or infectious processes
  • Are suffering from acute or chronic skin diseases
  • Are undergoing anticoagulant therapy
  • Have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid
  • Are suffering from autoimmune diseases

In addition, use of HYACORP products in the facial, breast, or genital augmentation is contraindicated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Happens When Body Fillers Wear Off?

As the body reabsorbs the filler, the skin returns to its original state. This may cause previously treated features to shrink and flatten and the re-emergence of creases, folds, and shadows.

Is Removing Body Fillers Painful?

No—some patients may experience mild discomfort during the filler removal procedure, but most experience minimal to no pain.

Are Hyaluronic Acid Body Fillers Permanent?

Hyaluronic acid body fillers are not permanent. While some may last as long as 18 to 24 months, all hyaluronic acid fillers eventually break down.
