- Expulsion: In rare cases, the IUD may get expelled from the uterus. This is usually accompanied by symptoms such as sudden heavy bleeding or cramping
- Perforation: Improper insertion technique or inadequate experience poses a risk of uterine wall perforation. This leads to pelvic pain and may require surgical intervention to treat. Some IUD brands offer soft insertion tubes that reduce the risk of perforation
