The actual duration that effects will have, is highly dependent upon factors such as the lifestyle and physiology of the patient. However, it has been noted that on average, visible results can last for 3 to 6 months from the date the injection was performed.

Start off the treatment plan with an insertion of 1.25-2.5 units (0.05-0.1 mL at each location) into the inner and outer sections of the upper eyelid’s orbicularis oculi muscular tissue, in addition to the outer region of the lower eyelid’s orbicularis oculi muscular tissue. For each patient, the maximum initial dos-age should be 25 units per eye, and the total dosage should not exceed 100 units within a three month period.

Meditoxin®, a product produced by Medytox Inc., is a type A botulinum toxin. Since introduction, it has become highly renowned for having a high level of safety and quality standards. This product, known as a botulinum toxin type A, functions by means of blocking nerve signals from being sent to specific muscular tissue, thereby enabling these same muscular tissues to refrain from contracting, instead remaining relaxed. This formulation is specifically developed to aid in the treatment of benign essential blepharospasm in a patient. Furthermore, it is utilized to treat equinus foot deformity, a condition most commonly triggered by spasticity, particularly when treatment is provided to a patient diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The treatment for these conditions works through relaxation of the muscular tissue. After treatment, this will reduce and eventually halt eyelid twitching. Additionally, by manner of obstructing the nerve receptors located in the foot, spasticity induced deformity can be mitigated.

  • Meditoxin® should only be applied on a patient by qualified, properly trained medical professionals.
  • The product arrives packaged in a diluted form, contained within a sterile solution in preparation for injection.
  • It is then injected directly into the muscular tissue which has been designated for treatment.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity of treatment site.
  • Myasthenia gravis or Eaton-Lambert syndrome, presence of infection at the proposed injection site.
  • Acute UTI & acute urinary retention, in patients who are not routinely performing clean intermittent self-catheterization.

After-care:

  • The patient is advised to not perform or partake in any physically taxing tasks, when undergoing treatment with Meditoxin®.
  • The patient is also recommended to limit or avoid exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures.
  • The doctor might also provide to the patient some additional tips such as do’s and don’ts, when it comes to activities and beverage or food consumption.
