Juvéderm® ULTRA SMILE dermal fillers are formulated for lip enhancement and correcting vertical lines. Ultra Smile is a higher viscosity dermal filler than Juvéderm® VOLIFT meaning it requires more manipulation to ensure distribution of the product so lumps do not present after treatment. It is also more suited to those patients that desire a prominent pout augmentation.

• Juvéderm® ULTRA SMILE is an injectable implant used for filling mid and/or deep depressions of the skin via mid and/or deep dermis injection, as well as for lip definition and enhancement.
• The presence of lidocaine is meant to reduce the patient’s pain during treatment.

Juvéderm® ULTRA SMILE is a sterile pyrogen-free physiological solution of cross-linked hyaluronic acid that is not of animal origin. The gel is presented in a graduated, pre-filled, disposable syringe. Each box contains two 0.55mL syringes, 2 single-use 30G1/2” sterile needles to be used only for injecting Juvéderm® product, an instruction leaflet and a set of labels in order to ensure traceability.

Injection Technique:

• Due to its softer consistency, this Juvederm® formulation requires superficial to mid dermal injections within the lips.
• A 30G or 32G needle with a short bevel is commonly used for precise placement and minimal trauma.
• Cannulas are generally not recommended for lip injections with Juvederm® Ultra Smile dermal fillers due to the risk of overfilling.
• Injection technique will vary depending on the desired outcome:
  • Serial puncture technique for lip volume enhancement
  • Linear threading for lip line smoothing
  • Cupid’s bow technique for shaping the central upper lip

Important Considerations:

• Juvederm® Ultra Smile is for licensed practitioners trained in lip augmentation procedures.
• Thorough assessment is crucial to determine injection points, amount of filler needed, and patient suitability.
• Aseptic technique is essential to minimize infection risks.
• Lidocaine helps with discomfort, but additional local anesthesia might be necessary for some patients.
• Gentle massage after injection helps with even product distribution and reduces the risk of lumps.
• Advise patients on potential side effects like bruising, swelling, and tenderness, which may be more noticeable in the lips.

Additional Tips:

• Use a blunt needle tip to minimize tissue disruption.
• Start with a conservative amount of filler and perform gradual injections, allowing patient feedback throughout the procedure.
• Overfilling can lead to unnatural-looking lips.
• Advise patients to avoid strenuous activity or excessive manipulation of the lips for 24-48 hours after injection.

Remember:

• Juvederm® Ultra Smile is not intended for augmentation in patients with a history of cold sores or facial herpes outbreaks.

Contraindications:

• Do not inject Juvéderm® ULTRA SMILE dermal fillers in the periorbital area (eyelids, crow’s feet) and glabellar region (forehead). The application of in the under-eye area is to be performed only by specialists specifically trained in this technique who have a sound knowledge of the physiology of this particular area.
• Do not inject into the blood vessels (intravascular). Intravascular injection may lead to embolization, occlusion of the vessels, ischemia or infarction.
• Do not overcorrect.
• Juvéderm® must not be used in:
  • Patients suffering from untreated epilepsy;
  • Patients who tend to develop hypertrophic scarring;
  • Patients with known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid and/or to gram positive bacterial proteins as hyaluronic acid is produced by Streptococcus type bacteria;
  • Patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or to amide-type local anaesthetics;
  • Patients suffering from porphyria;
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • Children.
• Must not be used in areas presenting cutaneous inflammatory and/or infectious processes (acne, herpes, etc.).
• Juvéderm® products should not be used simultaneously with laser treatment, deep chemical peels or dermabrasion. For surface peels, it is recommended not to inject the product if the inflammatory reaction generated is significant.

After-care:

• You should not use any makeup for at least 12 hours following the injection treatment.
• You should avoid extended exposure to the sun, ultraviolet (UV) rays and temperatures below 0°C, as well as any sauna or hammam sessions, during the two weeks following the injection treatment.
