MONOVISC®

MONOVISC™ High Molecular Weight Hyaluronan is a non-avian sourced hyaluronic acid injection therapy that has up to six months of clinically proven efficacy with a single injection. The required amount of MONOVISC™ is injected through a sterile, disposable hypodermic needle of suitable gauge into the selected joint space.

Monovisc™ is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non-pharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics (e.g., acetaminophen).

• MONOVISC™ is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, sodium hyaluronate solution, lightly cross-linked with a proprietary chemical cross-linker.
• Contains lightly cross-linked sodium hyaluronate (NaHA) dissolved in phosphate-buffered saline at physiological osmolality.
• Manufactured from ultra-pure, high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate produced by bacterial fermentation.

• MONOVISC™ Cross-Linked Sodium Hyaluronate Injection is a single, intra-articular injection of cross-linked sodium hyaluronate designed to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
• Strict aseptic injection technique should be used during the application of Monovisc™.
• MONOVISC™ is designed to replace or supplement synovial fluid.
• MONOVISC™ provides as much HA in a single injection as three injections of ORTHOVISC.
• High molecular weight HA provides excellent physical properties.
• Ergonomic syringe delivers safe, effective, easy injectability through 18-21 gauge needle.

Contraindications

• Do not administer to patients with known hypersensitivity (allergy) to hyaluronate preparations.
• Do not administer to patients with known hypersensitivity (allergy) to gram positive bacterial proteins.
• Do not inject Monovisc™ in the knees of patients with infections or skin diseases in the area of the infection site or joint.
• Do not administer to patients with known systemic bleeding disorders.

After-care

• For 48 hours after you receive the injection, you should avoid activities such as jogging, tennis, heavy lifting or standing on your feet for a long time (more than one hour).
• Transient pain or swelling may occur after the intra-articular (IA) injection.
• As with any invasive joint procedure, it is recommended that patients avoid strenuous or prolonged (i.e., more than one hour) weight-bearing activities such as running or tennis within 48 hours following the intra-articular injection.
