Gradually cosmetic procedures are becoming a norm with still a bit of taboo and judgment associated with them. But if something boosts your self-esteem, then why not give it a try? Plus, all cosmetic products used at the present time are approved by the FDA, which makes them safe to use for most candidates.

In the past, when cosmetic procedures were a new addition to the medical field, there were only single companies manufacturing the products. But with time, competition is increasing, and other manufacturers are also taking their cut in the market, especially when it comes to lip fillers.

The most common question out of all is, which lip filler brand trumps them all – Restylane or Juvederm? Both dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid used for lip augmentation and lip lines. According to professionals, both the fillers provide similar results with a slight variation in terms of use, cost, and potential side effects. Read on to learn more about them to make an informed decision.

1.    Procedure Type

Both Restylane and Juvederm are termed as out-patient procedures, which means they are non-surgical and only take minutes. Restylane Silk is designed to give a more natural and smoother looking result for both augmentation and lip lining, whereas Juvederm comes in two forms;

  • Juvéderm Ultra XC works best for lip augmentation.
  • Juvederm Volbella XC is used for volumizing and vertical lip lines.

Depending on the results that you desire, the physical might suggest one procedure over the other to deliver more accurate results.

2.    Cost

In terms of cost, Restylane costs between $300 to $650 per injection, whereas, on the other hand, a Juvederm injection costs an average of $600 depending on the amount required. But both the procedures are still affordable as compared to surgical procedures. But remember, your insurance plan will not cover the costs of any cosmetic procedure; therefore, you might need to discuss the payment plan with your provider.

3.    Results

In the case of Restylane treatment, the results begin to appear within a week and last up to 10 months and then gradually begin to fade. On the other hand, in the case of Juvederm, the results can be noticed immediately after the injections and last up to a year.

4.    Side Effects

Although both the procedures are non-invasive, but they do come with minor side effects depending on patient to patient. The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and bruising. But they recover within a week or two, leading to no major issues.

In certain cases, serious side effects stemming from the procedures are also noticed, which includes hyper-pigmentation, infection, death tissue, scars, and necrosis. Reactions of this sort are very rare yet still possible occurrences from both of the procedures.

Which Is Better?

Ultimately, there is no major difference between Restylane and Juvederm. Initially, deciding between the two might be confusing; therefore, you must consult a highly professional physician for the best results. Over time, you will begin to favor one treatment over the other based on which out of the two works best for you.  We do not think one lip filler is superior to the other, which is why we offer both options to our clients based on their needs.
