EUFLEXXA® (Italian)

EUFLEXXA (1% sodium hyaluronate) is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non-pharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics (e.g., acetaminophen).

EUFLEXXA is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is for patients who do not get enough relief from simple pain medications such as acetaminophen or from exercise and physical therapy. Osteoarthritis involves the wearing down of cartilage in the joints.

EUFLEXXA is a viscoelastic, sterile solution of highly purified, high molecular weight (2.4-3.6 million daltons) hyaluronan (sodium hyaluronate) in phosphate-buffered saline. It is extracted from bacterial cells and is a very highly purified product.

Patient Preparation:

The patient should be in a comfortable position allowing easy access to the joint. The skin is cleaned with an antiseptic.

Anesthesia:

Local anesthesia may be used to numb the injection area, either topical or through a local injection.

Aspiration:

If there is excess fluid in the joint, it may need to be removed before EUFLEXXA injections are performed.

Euflexxa Injection:

The EUFLEXXA syringe is prepared following the manufacturer’s instructions. The injection is administered directly into the joint space, and ultrasound guidance may be used for accuracy.

Euflexxa Post-injection Care:

After the injection, the patient may be advised to avoid strenuous activities for a few days to allow the joint to rest and the treatment to take effect.

Euflexxa Contraindications:

• Do not use EUFLEXXA in patients with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronan preparations.
• Do not use EUFLEXXA in patients with knee joint infections, infections, or skin disease in the injection area.

After-care:

Avoid physical activity for 48 hours following the injection to prevent knee swelling. Examples of activities to avoid include:

• Running
• Tennis
• Hiking
• Jumping
• Swimming
• Heavy lifting (weight lifting)
• Jogging
• Bicycling
• Aerobic exercise

Do not stand on your feet for more than one hour at a time during the first 48 hours following your EUFLEXXA injection. Consult your doctor for guidance on when to resume major physical activities.
